abstract | "The European battery cell industry requires sustainable manufacturing processes. The EU-funded BATMACHINE project aims to strengthen Europe’s battery cell industrial manufacturing value chain through the development of advanced battery cell manufacturing machinery. The primary focus is on minimising energy consumption during cell production, enhancing plant efficiency rates, and integrating intelligent control processes to reduce waste. The project will employ an energy efficient and optimised process chain for manufacturing steps such as slurry mixing, slot-die coating, calendering, and drying. BATMACHINE will establish a collaborative, FAIR data space for battery production, develop digital interfaces to streamline battery manufacturing, and investigate the environmental impact of machinery and factory designs. In this way, it will pave the way for a novel battery passport system." |
